The History of Reiki
Reiki is an ancient healing art that was rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui of Japan in the 1800’s, who set out on a journey to find a healing modality that was effective, and supported the innate healing abilities of both the practitioner and the patient.
The word Reiki is a combinantion of “Rei,” meaning “Universal Life”, and “Ki” meaning Energy. Reiki is the flow of universal life force through the body.
A cornerstone of Usui Reiki is the use of Reiki to heal oneself, as well as others. Dr. Usui believed that you must first heal yourself in order to be able to effectively heal others.
